Serena Williams served three aces in the final game and eliminated defending Wimbledon champion Petra Kvitova on Tuesday, winning the quarterfinal match 6-3, 7-5.
The sixth-seeded Williams, 30, is aiming for her fifth Wimbledon title, and said after her win, "I have nothing to lose."
Kvitova, who was seeded fourth, fell behind quickly in the match, trailing 5-2 after 20 minutes. But as the match continues, Kvitova started to find her range, making Williams do more running.
In the second set there wasn't a break point until the 10th game. It arrived suddenly and it was with Williams serving and more than a break point, it was a set point chance for Kvitova. But Williams popped in a 115-mile-per-hour service winner to hold for 5-5. In the next game Kvitova seemed unnerved and she walloped an easy forehand into the net on break point to give Williams a 6-5 lead and the chance to serve out the match.
And Williams did with her three aces plus a game-ending service winner. In the semifinals Williams will play either second-seeded Victoria Azarenka or Tamira Paszek.
Williams became the first women's semifinalist on a day that was filled with rain. The roof on Centre Court allowed David Ferrer to beat J uan Martin Del Potro 6-3, 6-2, 6-3 first.
